Product Care
To keep your wool or cotton rugs in top shape, follow these steps:
- Begin by blotting any stains with a dry cotton or white paper towel.
- Use a blunt instrument to carefully remove food or debris.
- Combine a minimal quantity of dish soap with a cup of cold water. Use this solution and a clean sponge to gently clean the stain. Avoid over-saturating the rug. Blot the cleaned area dry with a towel.
- Keep away from excessive heat or agitation as wool and cotton rugs are susceptible to bleeding and staining.
- For the best results, we advise a yearly professional cleaning.

A bold gray checkerboard pattern hand-woven in wool and cotton — the Thijs rug brings modern graphic style to any floor without the bulk of a pile rug.
- Bold checkerboard pattern in charcoal and light gray
- Hand-woven from wool and cotton — natural, breathable fibers
- Flatweave construction, just 0.24" thick — great for layering
- No pile — sleek, low-profile look that suits modern spaces
- Durable enough for entryways, dining rooms, and high-traffic areas
- Crafted by hand in India with traditional weaving techniques
A rectangular flatweave area rug with an allover checkerboard pattern composed of alternating squares in deep charcoal/dark gray and soft light gray. The dark squares appear slightly textured and looped, while the lighter squares have a tighter, smoother woven surface — creating a subtle but visible contrast in texture as well as color. The pattern is uniform and repeating across the entire rug surface with no border. Edges are cleanly bound with no fringe or tassels. The overall impression is graphic, modern, and precise — like a woven version of a classic checkerboard rendered entirely in cool gray tones. The rug lies completely flat with a very low profile.

cool, graphic, and quietly sophisticated
cool paletteA cool, graphic two-tone palette of deep charcoal and soft light gray — the checkerboard squares alternate between a dense, textured dark tone and a lighter woven ground, giving the rug a crisp, modern contrast that reads as sophisticated and versatile.

Living Room
When selecting a living room rug, choose one that anchors your furniture by either placing all the legs on the rug or just the front legs, which helps define the seating area and enhances the room’s acoustics.
Dining Room
When selecting a dining room rug, choose one large enough to fit under the table and chairs, ensuring that when the chairs are pulled out, they remain on the rug for a balanced look.
Bedroom
In the bedroom, opt for a rug that extends under the bed, providing a soft surface to step onto when getting out of bed and creating a cozy atmosphere.
Kitchen
For the kitchen, select a rug to place in front of the sink or under the countertops, offering comfort while standing and adding warmth to the space.
Bathroom
Choose a bathroom rug that fits comfortably in front of the sink or shower, providing a soft and absorbent surface for stepping out. For larger bathrooms, consider a rug that covers more area to enhance warmth and comfort.
Outdoor
For outdoor spaces like patios or decks, select a rug that complements the size of your seating area, leaving enough space around the furniture to create a well-defined and inviting look. Opt for weather-resistant materials to ensure durability.
