Simple Tips for Rug Selection
There are a lot of factors that play into choosing the best rug for your home and family. It may be a little confusing when you start looking into different styles, materials, and sizes, but there are a few things you can look at to make this process much more simple.
First, look at your furniture placement, not necessarily the walls in the room. Area rugs are a great way to draw a focal point in your room and ground your space. Choose a rug that will go nicely with your furniture grouping. I have the Carolina Area Rug featured in my living room above and we absolutely love it!
Scale is also important to note. With Boutique Rugs offering so many different options for rug size, you are sure to find one that will work perfect in your space. Look for a size that is larger than your furniture grouping so it’s not lost once you roll it out into your room and add your furniture. Sometimes even a round rug may be that pop of interest your room needs, such as the Bodrum Area Rug. I love the colors in this one!
Texture and pattern is another important feature to take into consideration. If I have a rug with a lot of pattern, I go for more neutral and solid color decor and let the rug be the star of the room. If I want my throw pillows / blankets / accessories to stand out more, then a more subtle patterned rug is the way to go. The Rachel Area Rug, pictured in my bedroom above, is a great neutral option.
Pair your rugs with accessories that compliment its style. I love to add textured throw pillows like the Atascocita Pillow Covers to beds / chairs / sofas for added texture. And a cozy throw is another welcome addition too. The Medomak Throw is one of my favorites! It seems to match every season, holiday, and style!
Traffic through the space may not seem like a topic of importance but it does play into what type of material you should look for when choosing a rug. We walk across our living room rug after entering our front door so a washable rug is more of a fit. Check out the Flockton Area Rug. It is stylish, washable, and super trendy too! I love that we can refresh our rug when we feel it’s needing it. A rug that is extra fluffy with texture may be more suitable for a bedroom with less traffic, such as this Bedias Area Rug, so soft!
